Chinese Medicine Perspective - Bedwetting

The kidneys are often referred to as the "root of life" or "our root of heaven Qi". This is because they store the essence from our parents which is established at our conception. These organs are in charge of many aspects of ourselves they rule our genes, brain, our hair on our head, our teeth and the associated emotion fear. Weak kidneys can lead to low back pain, knee pain, unhealthy teeth and bones and difficulty in holding our urine both day and night.

Eneuresis, commonly known as bedwetting, is more common in boys than girls.

Here are the statistics:

• 30% of children before the age of 4 years old.
• 10% of children before the age of 6 years old.
• 3% of children before the age of 12 years old.
• 1% of children before the age of 18 years old.

Ear Infections - Children and Acupuncture

More and more children are complaining of pain and discomfort in the ear and it is a major source of anxiety and sleepless nights for parents and children alike.

Acute otitis media commonly known as and ear infection is described as a severe pain in the ear with possible haring loss, severe vomiting and diarrhea. The eardrum will be red and may have a fluid discharge. Western doctors usually prescribe antibiotics. Some children respond well, but it doesn't treat the core imbalance. More and more children are becoming antibiotic resistant or intolerant.


In TCM (traditional chinese medicine) there are approximately 7 types of ear infections. Three main meridians surrounding the external ear, namely, the gall bladder, san jiao and small intestine. (see illustration)
